New Mark IV Build

Earlier in December 2016 we journeyed to Factory Five in Wareham Massachusetts to pick up the Mark IV kit we ordered right after SEMA.

To avoid the terrible roads of southern PA, we took a more northern route through Cleveland and Erie PA before heading east toward Massachusetts.  This gave our new 28’ trailer a baptism by snow as Lake Erie and a nice easterly wind dumped a bunch of snow on NE Ohio and NW Pennsylvania.  Once we cleared the lake effect, travel became much easier and we eventually arrived in Massachusetts tired, but safe.

On Saturday morning, we arrived at Factory Five and, once our kit was loaded, were given a nice tour by Dan Golub.  We then headed for home, stopping for the night halfway across PA before finishing our trip on Sunday.  Though the forecast looked worse for Sunday’s final leg, it turned out to be better than the trip out on Friday.

Why would we spend over 24 hours of our weekend driving to Massachusetts when Factory Five will happily arrange for delivery of our kit?  Well, we’ve already placed our order for a third-generation Type 65 Coupe.  This kit is brand new, having just been announced at SEMA in November.  In fact, our kit, to be ready mid-January, will likely be chassis 6 or 7.  It’s so new that there is not likely a build manual yet and the one and only prototype was in the Factory Five showroom, but was scheduled to leave before the end of the year.  So, we wanted to spend some time poking around the prototype taking lots of pictures in preparation of our build.

Dan and his team were very patent as we crawled all over that one of a kind G3 Type 65 and answered all our questions about how it was built.  We even got a look at prototype #2, in their R&D shop.

More on the Mark IV & Type 65 as they progress.  We’ve targeted having them both complete at on display at the London Cobra Show in June, alongside our 818S.  We hope to see you there.
